National Capital Region Transport Corporation, or NCRTC, was established with the objective of constructing Regional Rapid Transit Systems. Though it has identified a total of eight such projects to complete connecting Delhi to its neighbouring cities with rapid rail system, the first phase is to cover three projects-Delhi to Karnal, Delhi to Meerut and Delhi to Alwar. The Delhi to Alwar RRTS is to pass through Gurugram and Rewari.
The Delhi-Alwar RRTS is 164 km long and is designed to operate rail at average speed of about 105 km/hr. So, it will take about 104 minutes to cover the distance. The total cost of the project is expected to be about Rs 37000 crores. This is to be completed in three phases and one pre-construction phase. The pre-construction phase involved performing all the tests for feasibility of the project. In June 2018, the first phase of the project was sanctioned for Rs 27000 crores.
