West Delhi is among the nine districts of Delhi that divided into three subdivisions, Patel Nagar, Rajouri Garden, and Punjabi Bagh. The district has a population of 1,743,980 people with a literacy rate around 70 per cent. It shares its boundary with a district called Jhajjar of State Haryana to the west.
West Delhi was planned to be mainly a residential zone but with time this has also become a large commercial hub with many shopping complexes and plazas, local markets and large wedding banquet halls dotting landscape of this district. This area is unmistakably dominated by the Punjabi-speaking communities.
The district is bound by New Delhi district in south-east, South-West district in south, district Jhajjar district of Haryana in west, North-West district of Delhi in north and Central Delhi district in north-east.
The three subdivisions of this district are- Patel Nagar, Rajouri Garden and Punjabi Bagh.
This district is managed by South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

West Delhi District Areas and Population
As per the 2011 Census of this district, there are 2,531,583 residents here. The district is spread over an area of about 129 square kilometers.
Areas like Janakpuri, Tilak Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Rohini reflect the commercial side of this district too. It has quite a good number of posh areas like Pitampura, Rohini, Patel Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Punjabi Bhag, Paschim Vihar, Dwarka, Janakpuri and Vikas puri. The district is also quite popular among the shopping freaks. Rajouri Garden, Netaji Subhash Chander Place (NSP) and Janakpuri are some of the most popular markets among the Delhities.
The district also has a number of finest restaurants and couple of five-star hotels. With passing years, West Delhi has improved a lot in terms of its infrastructure. People of all class can enjoy in this part. It is not wrong to say that majority of Punjabis live in this part of Delhi. Areas like Tilak Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Ramesh Nagar, Vikas Puri, Moti Nagar and Kriti Nagar have a number of Punjabis families. Kriti Nagar in West Delhi is known for largest furniture and decor market. West Delhi has many shopping malls, entertainment zones, multiplexes and street markets where visitors can have a good time. Delhi Haat at Pitampura is also a must visit place in West Delhi.
The district has a good number of colleges affiliated from Delhi and IP Universities as well prominent schools like Rukmani Devi, DAV, Bosco and Meera International. Eating joints such as Punjabi by Nature, BTW, Pizzahut, Dominos, Subways, KFC, McDonalds and Nirula are located in this part. Transportation system of this district is quite big and good. Blue and Green line are two key metro services ply in this part. The district also has few railway stations from where you can move to nearby locations of Delhi NCR. However, some long route trains also cross from this zone.
