Noida plans to go the Barapullah way now

Noida: Imagine cruising across one of the busiest traffic corridors within minutes. Travelling from Mayur Vihar to Kalindi Kunj will soon be one smooth drive as the Noida authority, in its recently held 173rd board meeting, has given the go-ahead for an elevated road to run parallel above the Shahdara drain.

Not only will Noida get decongested, but a peak-time drive of 30-45 minutes into Delhi, Faridabad and Ghaziabad will be reduced to a few minutes. Starting from Chilla Regulator (Mayur Vihar) in Delhi to Kalindi Kunj located on the border of Noida and Faridabad, the Shahdara drain enters Noida city at sector 14, 14A and runs along sector 95 to drain out into the Yamuna below the Kalindi Kunj Bridge. Along the way, the drain flows under bridges located at Udyog Marg, Master Plan-I road, Master Plan-II road and the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway link road.

“Estimated to cost Rs 525 crores, the stretch will be 5.8km in length and would serve as a dedicated fast-access corridor for vehicles. To be constructed on stilts, each of the carriageways will be three-lane on either side,” said chairman of Noida authority, Mohinder Singh. He added, “With this new elevated road in place, seamless traffic movement to and from Noida and Delhi will be possible. The aim is to decongest the city, provide a corridor for free flow of traffic and save time for commuters.”

This elevated road will be an important infrastructure project that would not only prove to be beneficial for commuters but also provide a permanent link between Delhi, Noida and Faridabad. In addition, this will ease the traffic burden on sectors 14, 14A, 15, 15A, 17, 18, 38A, 94 and 95, besides Kalindi Kunj. Once in place, in Noida, the elevated road will be able to provide access to Jhundpura via the Udyog Marg, crossing of sectors 12-22 and 56 on the Master Plan-I road and the Noida-Greater Expressway via the Master Plan-II road.

In addition, it will provide an option for constructing a ring road and bypass around Noida. Once the feasibility report comes in, Noida engineers will work out dedicated exit/entry points along the route. Said Noida’s Senior Project Engineer, AK Goel, “Existing roads will have to be integrated as well as widened as per the new alignment, while slip roads will be constructed wherever required.”

Taking into consideration the toll taken by the existing infrastructure development activity taking place across the city, the authority has decided to adopt the Precast PSC Box Grinder Segmental construction technology for the project as it is one of the most appropriate solutions for big cities with high density of vehicular traffic. Goel explained, “For such elevated expressways, the technology provides a number of advantages, like fast-track work, least disturbance to traffic during construction, better quality and also provides a cost-effective solution.” Currently, the alignment for the project is being worked out. Once the blueprint is drawn up and the details finalized, the project is expected to be completed within 30 months from the date of operation.
