North Delhi

Bounded by the River Yamuna at the east, North Delhi is an administrative district that has divided into three subdivisions - Civil Lines, Sadar Bazar and Kotwali. With having an area of 59 sq. km, the district has a population of around 7,79,788 as per the data of 2001 census and that listed it in one of the most populated areas of Delhi. North Delhi mainly reflects ancient culture due to lying in the region of Old Delhi. However, the mix culture of old and modern India can be seen in this district. Where Chandni Chowk, Kashmiri Gate and Darya Ganj are the reflection of ancient world, areas like Model Town, Civil Lines and Ashok Vihar represent modern world. Monuments of Mughal era like Red Fort and Jama Masjid make North Delhi a prominent district. It has markets of old and modern times. North Delhi even has a Delhi Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha).

North Delhi is also seen as the hub for education as this district has an excellent campus of Delhi University that offers graduate, post-graduate and professional courses. Besides this, North Delhi also has universities like Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and Dr Baba Bimrao Ambedkar University. Delhi University in North Delhi is not just popular among students of India but also various parts of the world. The University is popularly known as "North Campus" that has prominent colleges like St Stephens, SRCC, Hindu, Daultram, Karorimal, Ramjas, Miranda, Hansraj, Delhi School of Economics and Faculty of Management Studies (FMS). Getting an admission in these colleges is like dream come true thing for students. Law faculty of North Campus is quite popular among the students.

It is not wrong to say that North Delhi has the best transportation services as it has Delhi's old Inter State Bus Terminal at Kashmiri Gate. It also has many important railway stations Sarai Rohilla, Subzi Mandi, Kishan Ganj and Old Delhi Railway stations from where people can board short to long route trains. North Delhi also has a metro line called as 'Yellow Line' that runs between Samaypur Badali to Huda City Center.

North Delhi also has a vegetable and fruit mandi named 'Azadpur Mandi' considered as Asia's largest wholesale market for fruits and vegetables. There are many eateries, lavishing restaurants and good schools in North Delhi.
