Palam Domestic Airport in New Delhi
Terminal 1of New Delhi airport serves as the Palam domestic airport and it provides the domestic connections. Terminal 1 is the oldest terminal of the Delhi airport having all basic facilities and caters to the domestic flights within India. The Palam Airport in Delhi is situated about 12 kilometers from the city center and is linked with free frequent bus services for the travelers.
The Indira Gandhi International Airport is just about 5 km away from the Domestic Terminal. There are free shuttle services, provided by the Airport Authority of India, for transfers between the terminals. Besides, Indian Airlines, Jet Airways and Air India also operate their free shuttles running 24 hours. The domestic airport is over 35 minutes drive from Connaught Place, one of the strategic locations of New Delhi. This airport has two terminal buildings - one for domestic departures and the other for common arrivals.
The Domestic terminal is further divided into sub terminals namely Terminal 1A, Terminal 1B, Domestic Arrival Terminal and the newly-constructed 1D. Indian Airlines' domestic flights and flights of Alliance Air fly from terminal 1A whereas private airlines like Air Sahara, Air Deccan, Jet Airways, Indigo, Spice Jet, Kingfisher, Go air etc. and other private aircrafts used to take off from terminal 1B. The distance from 1A to 1 B is about 7.5 km.
The Domestic Arrival Terminal (1C) and the newly-constructed 1D, which is used by all remaining domestic airlines and a a separate Technical Area for VVIP passengers is also there at the Palam domestic airport.
Different transport services are available at the Delhi Airport, including autorickshaws, taxis and even buses. There is a prepaid taxi service, which is regarded as the most economical.
Other facilities at the airport include free medical facilities at the medical rooms of the Airport Authority of India. Car parking is also available at the palam domestic airport. For any other information, there is a help desk and information centre to solve any air related query. Other airport services at Palam include ATM machines and money exchange counters, new mobile sim counters, telephone booths to make international or local calls, eating and drinking joints, resting rooms and baby care rooms and so on.
