One of the three RRTS projects undertaken by NCRTC for improving regional connectivity of Delhi with its neighbouring cities is the Delhi-Sonipat-Panipat RRTS. The other two are Delhi-Meerut RRTS and Delhi-Alwar RRTS.
The Delhi-Panipat RRTS will be extended to Karnal and it will cover a total distance of about 135 kilometers. This is a proposed project which will allow commuters to travel at an average speed of about 120 km/hr, enabling them to reach Karnal from Delhi in about 97 minutes. The total project cost is estimated to be Rs 21,627 crores, out of which Haryana Government will bear 16%.
The origin station of this RRTS in Delhi will be Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station and this will also be a transit station for Delhi-Meerut and Delhi-Alwar rapid rail lines. Besides, Hazrat Nizamuddin is also a Delhi Metro Station besides being a railway station. So, this area of Nizamuddin along with Sarai Kale Khan will become a huge transportation hub for rail-road regional connectivity.
