traveller Traveller’s Pick – About Lodi Tomb

Delhi has a history of being ruled by different dynasties in the medieval period. Just to summarise, these were the Mamluks (1206-90), Khalijis (1290-1320), Tughlaqs (1320-1414), Sayyids (1414-1451) and the Lodis (1451-1526) in that order that ruled Delhi. Together this period is known as the period of Delhi Sultanate.

The last among these were the Lodis, whose dynasty was established by Bahlul Lodhi, followed by Sikandar Lodi and then Ibrahim Lodhi.

In Delhi, the tombs of two of these Lodi rulers exist. One of Bahlul Lodi at Chirag Delhi and the other of Sikandar Lodi in the famous Lodi Gardens. It is interesting to note that Lodi Gardens also have tomb of Muhammad Shah IV of Sayyid dynasty. This piece of writing is for the tomb of Sikandar Lodhi.
