Delhi Metro is a rapid transport system operating in Delhi and its adjoining areas like Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh and Bahadurgarh (Map above) . In order to avoid accidents, pollution and traffic jams, Government has started running the metro rail in the capital Delhi. Due to increasing population in the capital its proportion to the means of public transport, there was scarcity of transport services in Delhi . Also, in view of the increasing population in the capital and its burden on the traffic system, The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was set up jointly by the government of India and the government of Delhi in May 1995 when Delhi’s CM was Madan Lal Khurana. Delhi Metro was inaugurated on 24 December 2002 by Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee (honorable Prime Minister of India).
So far, metro rail was operational in countries like Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Germany, France and India too (Kolkata Metro). Delhi Metro consists of routes named as Red Line, Blue Line, Yellow Line, Green Line, Violet Line, Orange Line, Magenta Line and Pink Line. Delhi Metro has become a backbone of transportation system of national capital as a large number of commuters travel in it on daily basis.
