Laxmi Nagar is a locality in eastern Delhi, located just on the banks of River Yamuna. It lies on the left side of Vikas Marg when coming from ITO, just after crossing the ITO bridge over River Yamuna. Laxmi Nagar is a residential-cum-commercial locality which also makes it highly congested as there is a high density of population. It is bordered by Yamuna pushta on its west, Vikas Marg road in east and across Vikas Marg lies the Shakarpur locality.
Laxmi Nagar Market
Laxmi Nagar is essentially famous for its marketplace where you can find a number of articles. While there are no swanky malls within this old inhabited place due to scarcity of space, you can certainly find a number of shops and restaurants in the main market selling all types of commodities. The market caters to the needs of not just the residents of this locality but of other localities as well.
Besides, every week on Tuesday, a flea market is also held in a particular lane, called the “Mangal Bazaar gali”. Items of daily use can be purchased at cheaper rates here. Ramesh Park Clothing market is another famous market for apparel and fabrics which are available at cheap rates.
Nathu Sweets, Hira Sweets are two famous sweets shops in Laxmi Nagar.
Laxmi Nagar Coaching Hub
Laxmi Nagar, due to its proximity to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India at ITO and availability of educated and experienced teachers, has turned into a major coaching hub for CA, CS, ICWA aspirants as also for various government jobs. This has also turned Laxmi Nagar into a PG hostel location for boys and girls.
Tall residential buildings, narrow inner lanes and an always crowded market place along the main street makes this a happening residential locality.
Hospitals, Schools and Banks in Laxmi Nagar
Walia Nursing Home is a long-established hospital providing medical facilities. It is right on the main Vikar Marg. Makkar Hospital is another prominent one here. Many doctors, including ENT, dentist, general physicians, pediatricians and others also have their clinics here.
Bal Bhawan Public School and Lovely Public Sr. Secondary School are two prominent schools of this areas. There is also a government MCD school. Residents have also opened quite a few play schools for little kids who have not yet enrolled in regular schools.
State Bank of India and LIC have its branches right in the main market of Laxmi Nagar. Besides, there is Central Bank of India, Bank of India and with ATMs in this locality for the ease and convenience of people living here.
Religious Places in Laxmi Nagar
Quite a few temples of Hindus, mosques of Muslims and gurudwaras of Sikhs are located here. Santan Dharam Mandir, Krishna Mandir, Anar Wali Masjid, Masood Masjid and Gurudwara Singh Sabha are some of the prominent places of worship here.
Metro Connectivity
Laxmi Nagar is served by Delhi Metro’s Blue Line with station at Laxmi Nagar itself. Another close location is of Nirman Vihar Metro Station.
