Introduction

Delhi Capitals is a professional cricket franchise team that competes in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team represents the capital city of India, Delhi, and is jointly owned by the GMR Group and the JSW Group. The team was founded in 2008 as Delhi Daredevils, but was rebranded as Delhi Capitals in 2019. In this article, we will discuss the history, achievements, players, and management of Delhi Capitals.

History of Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals was founded in 2008 as Delhi Daredevils. The team was led by Virender Sehwag and coached by Greg Shipperd in its initial years. Despite having a strong team on paper, the Daredevils could not perform well in the first few seasons of the IPL. However, the team reached the semi-finals in 2008 and 2009 but failed to make it to the finals.

In 2012, the Daredevils finished first in the league stage but lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the semi-finals. After that, the team could not qualify for the playoffs for the next few years. In 2018, Gautam Gambhir was appointed as the captain of the team, but he resigned after just six matches due to poor performance. The team finished last in the league that year.

In 2019, Delhi Daredevils was rebranded as Delhi Capitals, and Shreyas Iyer was appointed as the captain of the team. The team reached the playoffs for the first time in seven years but lost to Chennai Super Kings in the eliminator. In 2020, the team reached the finals for the first time in its history but lost to Mumbai Indians.

Achievements of Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals has not won the IPL title yet, but the team has shown significant improvement in the last few seasons. The team has reached the playoffs four times, and the finals once. In the 2020 season, the team won nine out of its 14 league matches and finished second on the points table. In the playoffs, the team defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 2 but lost to Mumbai Indians in the finals.

Players of Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals has a strong squad of players, including Indian and international cricketers. The team has some of the best players in the IPL, such as Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, and David Warner. The team also has some promising young talent, such as Chetan Sakariya, Aman Khan, and Kuldeep Yadav.

Management of Delhi Capitals

The management of Delhi Capitals is led by Chairman Parth Jindal, and Team CEO Dhiraj Malhotra. The team is coached by Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting, who is considered one of the best captains in the history of cricket. The assistant coaches of the team are Ajit Agarkar, Shane Watson, and Pravin Amre, and the bowling coach is James Hopes.
