Students open up to new avenues
May 27, 2008

New Delhi: Open Days at Delhi University have become the ideal platform for DU aspirants to discover new career options. In another session at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College on Monday, about 350 students turned up with unending queries and confused aspirations. Many of them realised that they had a blinkered view of the university which stopped them from taking up various new courses in off-campus colleges.

"I only knew about colleges like Hindu and St Stephen’s before visiting the open-days session. After interacting with DU volunteers, I realised there are so many courses and activities in the south Delhi colleges. I never knew even DDU College has so much to offer," said Abhishek Kukreja, who wishes to pursue Physics (Hons) in any college that gives him an opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities also.

Many off-campus colleges in New Delhi offer various new courses, especially in Science. For instance, Bhaskaracharya College in Dwarka offers BSc in Electronics, Instrumentation and Food Technology, which are job-oriented courses, available only there. BSc, Biomedical Sciences, is offered there and also at Acharya Narendra Dev College in Kalkaji and Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women.

"Many off-campus colleges are new. With the latest infrastructure, they are equipped to start emerging courses," said S K Garg, principal, DDU College. These off-campus colleges offer a plethora of options in professional courses also. There is an English Journalism course at Kalindi College in East Patel Nagar, Maharaja Agrasen College in Mayur Vihar, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce in Netaji Nagar, besides LSR and Kamala Nehru College in south Delhi.
