Blue Line Buses to be Phased out in Delhi

The menace of blue line buses in the capital has once again haunted
the people of Delhi with the incident happening a couple of days ago
when a speeding blue line bus rammed into several buses at the signal,
killing a boy and injuring others. After the incident, Chief Minister
Sheila Dikshit announced that these buses would be phased out in the
city.
She said that the government was thinking on increasing the number
of High capacity buses which are running on two routes at the moment.
There are over 3,000 Blue Line buses in the capital.
Transport Minister of Delhi, Haroon Yusuf visited the family of the
victim who was a 13 year old child. Morick - name of the child
- was crushed by the speeding blue line bus on Friday. The minister
did give assurance to the family members of the deceased child and
said action will be taken against the culprit.
The incident took place when Morick was riding pillion on his father's
scooter along with his brother in Rajaouri Garden area of New Delhi
when a speeding Blue Line Bus came and dashed from behind. He died
on the spot whereas his father and brother sustained minor injuries.
Morick was a class 5 student of S M Jain Montessori School in North
Delhi.
"We have some plans for these Blue Line Buses and needed steps
will definitely be taken at an appropriate time", said Jusuf.
He further added that strong action will be taken against callous
drivers and bus owners.
The registered number of vehicles in Delhi is 4.7 million which is
more than the total number of vehicles in cities like Kolkata, Mumbai,
and Chennai put together.
The culprit Jaswinder Singh, the blue line bus driver, was arrested
on Monday |
