Metro trial started on Shahdara line
29, Apr, 2008
As per schedule, the Delhi Metro conducted trial
runs on the first section of Phase II between Shahdara and Dilshad
Garden, covering the 3.1 km stretch on Sunday (i.e 27-Apr-08).
Three trial runs were conducted successfully between 10 am and
1 pm on this section. ‘‘These runs would continue for the next three
to four weeks and the section is expected to be thrown open by the
end of May or June beginning, depending on the performance of the
runs,’’ said Anuj Dayal, chief public relations officer of DMRC.
The entire signalling system which is based on Automatic Train Protection
(ATP) is also being tested during the trials. The response of the
train at different speeds, braking of the train and the interconnection
with Operations Control Centre (OCC) will also be monitored during
the trials, added Dayal.
During each 24-hour cycle during the next three weeks of trial
running, trains would run for about eight hours intensively everyday
and the remaining time will be used for completion and rectification
of various works. It is expected that more than 150 trips (runs)
of the train will be done during the trials.
The new section would be integrated with the existing 22.8 km Shahdara-Rithala
section. The interim stations on the section are Mansarovar Park
and Jhilmil and the section is fully elevated. About 26,000 passengers
are expected to use the new section everyday, said senior officials.
The section has completed a good seven months ahead of its earlier
December 2008 deadline.
