Delhi Metro entered Noida

14, Nov, 2009

Thursday (13-Nov-09) was a new benchmark for DMRC as Delhi Metro entered Noida after safety inspectors gave the go ahead after detailed inspection. Delayed by well over a month from its October (09) deadline, Delhi Metro Noida line came up after eleven piers detected with cracks were strengthened and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was convinced of the safety arrangements. This is the first time that Delhi Metro has reached Noida connecting the satellite city with National Capital.

The new line called the Yamuna Bank-Noida line was flagged off on 13-Nov-09 by India's Minister for Urban Development, Jaipal Reddy from the new Akshardham station. Chief Minister of Delhi Shiela Dixit was also present at the flagging off ceremony. The Yamuna Bank-Noida line is 8.1 miles long. This new Noida line will add another 13.1 kms to Line 3, extending it to 47.3 kms; entire corridor will have 42 stations; Train frequency will be 12 mins at peak hours.

According to the DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) officials, the new Yamuna Bank – Noida line will be beneficial to commuters from Noida to Delhi and vice versa, since there is vast majority of people travel daily between the two regions. Around 53,000 passengers are daily expected to join the metro network after the opening of the new line.

The people of Noida are extremely excited about Delhi Metro. It was very much evident when a large crowd of people had gathered outside the venue (Noida City Centre – Sector 32) where Delhi Metro opening ceremony (at Noida) was held. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation is planning to add Delhi Metro Feeder bus service from most stations. The buses will run at a frequency of 15 to 20 minutes.

"I will be leaving my car outside the Noida metro station tomorrow and take the metro to work. I can leave a little late and don't need to worry about traffic congestion and all that," said Vivek Mehta, who works in Delhi and lives in Noida.

In starting Noida line will get 7 new trains. More trains will be added as the manufacture fulfills the demand. Initial frequency of the trains will be 12 minutes at peak hours because this line has become one of the busiest lines of Delhi Metro Network with 42 stations.

Here is the list of stations on Yamuna Bank – Noid Line:-

In Delhi: Yamuna Bank, Akshardham Temple, Mayur Vihar-I Mayur Vihar Ext., New Ashok Nagar

In Noida: Sector 15, Sector 16, Sector 18, Botanical Garden, Golf Course and City Centre (Sector 32)
