Metro Line to Noida gets go-ahead
July 01, 2007
COMMUTING TO the NCR
town of Noida from
Delhi is all set to become smooth and hassle free by 2010.
The Delhi Cabinet on Monday gave its approval to extend the Metro
Line III to Noida's Sector 32 from New Ashok Nagar.
This proposed line will cover a seven-kilometre stretch and the
entire route length of the extension of Line III lies outside Delhi.
The entire corridor would be ready before the 2010 Commonwealth
Games and would cater to an approximate traffic of 53,000.
"We had sought certain clarifications from the Delhi
Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and after we received them the
final decision was taken," said a senior Delhi govern- ment
official.
The commissioning of the sevenkilometre line would cost Rs 736
crore, of which Rs 611 crore is capital cost of the network and
Rs 32 crore as cost of land would be borne by the Uttar Pradesh
government. "The DMRC would spend Rs 93 crore as cost of rolling
stock," said the of- ficial.
DMRC has already
been allocated Rs. 1101.50 crore in the Union Budget 2007-2008.
A total provision of Rs. 3403.25 has been kept for DMRC including
Rs. 2301.75 crore under nonplan expenditure.
The increase in the budgetary allocation was made keeping in view
Metro's huge expansion plan as part of its Phase II. DMRC has already
started work on the six lines of Phase II that is spread over 56.74
km and were initially approved.
The second phase of Metro,
the most ambitious so far, will connect Delhi to Gurgaon,
Noida and Ghaziabad. Within the capital, the metro will penetrate
south Delhi and also connect New Delhi Railway station to the airport
through a high-speed line.
