DELHI METRO RAIL - The City LifeLine
Metro rail service in Delhi has come as a much awaited gift for the people of Delhi, which has indeed changed the transport facility of the city. It has become the "life line" of Delhi as people are dependent on Delhi Metro for commuting to different places within the city. Delhi Metro Project has been recognized all over the world for its specialty in terms of a hi-tech rail and better equipped transport system. The project is under the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, DMRC and it deserves all the credit for transforming the transport service of the city.
Delhi Metro Phase III 
Sources in the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) confirmed that the redesigned alignment had been decided, with the Yamuna Vihar-Mukundpur corridor being the longest one. In fact, when completed, this corridor will be the longest line in the entire Delhi Metro network, covering 55.9km. The Yamuna Vihar-Mukundpur corridor will have major stations at Mukundpur, Rajouri Garden which will also be an interchange station Dhaula Kuan, Anand Vihar yet another interchange station culminating in Yamuna Vihar.

Metro rail in the city has reduced the traffic to some extent and the pollution level has certainly declined. Construction of Metro is still in progress in other parts of the city as the network of Delhi Metro is expected to cover whole of Delhi by the year 2010. Delhi Metro is equipped with modern facilities and the state of art design makes it very different from other metro rails in the world. Security within the metro rail has been give prime importance. The train ensures the safety and comfort of passengers with hi-tech compartments having adequate security cover. The compartments are fully automatic with gates being operated automatically and there are emergency exits in the train. You can communicate with the driver of the train at any point in case of an emergency.
Metro Rail stations have been designed keeping in view the comfort of the passengers and the traffic on the road. Each and every station of Delhi Metro has sufficient parking to provide hassle free commuting where people can park their and use the metro service. The stations have an international in them and the immaculate facilities within the stations make feel proud of the service offered by DMRC. The stations have special for handicaps and senior citizens with escalators and lifts in. The computerized ticketing system makes transit in and out the metro very smooth. DMRC also gives the option of possessing card if you are a daily traveler and wish to avoid standing queues for tokens.
Currently metro is operational in some parts of the city but in the coming years; Delhi Metro will have operations all through the city with connectivity to Gurgaon and Noida.

The Airport Express Link* |
The Airport Express Link is a state-of-the-art Metro corridor that connects the Indira Gandhi International Airport with New Delhi City. Commuters can now zip to the Airport in only 18 minutes, whereas a road journey from the city to the Airport takes at least 45 minutes. This 22.7 kilometre long Metro corridor has completely revolutionized the transport scenario of the city.
Total Number of stations on the line:6 (New Delhi Railway Station - Shivaji Stadium - Dhaula Kuan - Delhi aerocity - Airport - Dwarka Sector- 21).
Baggage check in facility at New Delhi Metro Station and Shivaji Stadium, although baggage is allowed in the trains from all the stations on this line.Parking available at Shivaji Stadium and New Delhi stations.
Passengers getting down from the express link at Dwarka Sector-21 can directly board the train of line 3 (Dwarka Sector-21 to NOIDA city Centre) without changing the platform.

Bicycle Rental Facility |

Bicycles can be rented at some Metro stations for the benefit of commuters who want to travel short distances from the stations.
A nomnal amount of Rs.10/- is charged for using the cycles for a minumum of four hours. Users have to provide a photo identity proof for availing the facility.
Some of the Prominent Metro Stations where this Facility is available: Vishwavidyalaya, Pragati Maidan, Patel Chowk & Indraprastha.

Metro Museum is located inside the Pael Chowk Metro station, which is on Line 2 (Jahangirpuri - HUDA City Centre) of the Delhi Metro network. Apart from Metro services, the Museum can be reached by a number of city buses, auto rickshaws and taxis.

Delhi Metro enters Vaishali »
On 15-July, the satellite town of Ghaziabad became the third city in the National Capital Region (NCR) to find a place on the Metro map, after Gurgaon and Noida.By evening, about 30,000 people from Ghaziabad and adjacent areas in Uttar Pradesh (UP) had taken the Metro from the two new stations -Kaushambi and Vaishali -on the 2.57km extended corridor. After neighbouring Noida, Ghaziabad becomes the second city in Uttar Pradesh to be connected to the Metro. The first train was flagged-off at 7am by UP cabinet minister Swami Prasad Maurya from Vaishali Metro station. With the opening of the section, Dwarka Sector 21-Vaishali corridor has become the second longest Metro corridor, with a length of 46km, after the Dwarka-Noida corridor (49km). Read More »
