Medical facility is an integral part of a well established city and
Delhi ranks among the best in medical facilities
in India. In Delhi, there are a number of government and non-government
organizations offering health care facilities to the citizens. Directorate
of health Services (DHS), under the government of NCT of Delhi is
the major agency committed to delivering better health care. It coordinates
with other government and non-government organization to deliver the
best medical facility in Delhi.
The World Health Organization has very categorically stated that "The
hospital is an integral part of a social & medical organization. The
function of which is to provide for the population complete health
care, both curative and preventive and whose outpatient services reach
out to the family and its home environment; the hospital is also a
centre of training of health workers and for biosocial research" There
are a total of eleven hospitals that are working under DHS. These
hospitals provide OPD, IPD and casualty services.

Accidents
and Injuries (Trauma)
Delhi has special establishments that provide emergency services in
case of accidents, immediate medical care and emergency medical treatments.
In case of emergency, you can either call Centralized Accidents and
Trauma Services (CATS) or Police control room or the Ambulance. You
can also take the patient to the nearest hospital or the Sushruta
Trauma Center near ISBT. Major hospitals offering intensive care (ICU)
and other emergency medical treatment are:
Burns
Burns need quick and prompt medical care. In case of an emergency,
you can take the patient any of the following hospitals:

to disclose your identity for taking an injured person to any of the
hospitals in Delhi.
The Supreme Court of India has made it mandatory for all private and
government hospitals to entertain each and every case of medical care
despite the excuse of the case being medico legal. The doctor attending
first in such cases will exactly record the findings and provide them
to the authorities as and when required
Dog Bite
If you come across a condition when a dog has bitten some one then
the first thing you should do is wash the affected area with water
and soap. Take the affected person to the nearest hospital for treatment.
Rabies vaccination is easily available at medical stores and at all
government hospitals in Delhi.
Unconsciousness
Unconsciousness is a serious condition when a patient feels restlessness
due to an injury or trauma. It may also occur due to excessive poisoning
and other diseases like cerebrovascular accidents, hypertension, diabetes
mellitus etc.
Government and private hospitals in Delhi
are geared to cater any such cases. So it is advisable to take the
patient to the nearest hospital for immediate care.
Heart Attack
Heart attack is a critical case which normally occurs in mid age people
where a patient feels anxiety and reports severe pain in chest, breathlessness,
sweating, anxiety and sudden unconsciousness.

to the District Nodal Officers of the area or to the nearest healthcare.
For dengue haemorrhagic fever, one can also contact the National Institute
of Communicable Diseases at 22, Shamnath Marg directly.
