Airports in Delhi
International Airport of Delhi, popularly known as Indira
Gandhi International Airport, is located 24 kilometers south
of New Delhi.
It is a two-terminal airport with major Airlines from across the world
having flights to and from Indira Gandhi International Airport. Out
of the two terminals, one is the Domestic Terminal some 3 kilometers
away from the International Terminal.
Facilities
at Delhi Airport
There is a free bus service at every 30 minutes from one terminal
to another. Both the terminals are equipped with modern facilities
like seating room, resting room, banks, bureaux de change, restaurants,
cafes, Internet facility and duty free shopping area. However, you
should be prepared to face some hassles at the airport before you
board the flight. You will find ATMs at Terminal 1A (Domestic) and
the visitors arrival area of International Terminal. There is a bus
service by the Airports Authority with buses leaving for Central
Delhi all through the day and night.
Apart from the luxury and hospitality at the Delhi
Airport, there are some snags that are common considering flight
schedules and security concerns. You may have to stand in queues for
security checks. Custom officers are generally very polite except
a few who can be rude at times.
Car Rentals and Taxis
Cabs and taxis are available for hire on arrival to the Delhi Airport.
Car rental option is available at the airport if you want to avoid
the hassles of taxis. Self driven cars are not advisable due to the
condition of traffic in the city. Major car rental service agencies
like Avis and Hertz operate from the airport. Parking facilities within
the annexes of both the terminals are sufficient to accommodate cars
and vehicles arriving at the airport.
If you prefer a taxi then it is better to go for the pre-paid taxi
service at the airport. This would ensure that you are charged with
genuine fare and taxi operators can't ask you for extra money.
