No developer for Games Village yet
July 01, 2007
Work on the Commonwealth
Games village is delayed yet again with the Delhi Development
Authority extending the deadline for finalizing the developer for
the fourth time.
The Authority was to announce the developer for the residential
project near Akshardham
temple on June 20, but on Monday it postponed it to June 28
because the sole bidder for the project wanted some clarifications.
The Games village will house about
8,500 athletes and delegates expected to participate in the 2010
Commonwealth Games.
Emaar PJSC, the Dubai-based realty firm and the sole developer
to submit the technical and financial bids for the project, had
a feew issues related to height restriction of the proposed residential
facility.
"We had also sought some clarification from them as to how
they will implement the project," said a DDA official.
Now DDA will had over the letter of intent to the selected project
developer by July 5 after the bidder has submitted some advance
money. The developer will have to make the final payment to DDA
by September 5.
The Games village project
has been embroiled in controversy from the word go. DDA first had
to extend the deadline because none of the 11 private developers
who were short-listed by DDA in February submitted bids. On June
15, only two of them submitted their bids for the project. But only
the bid submitted by Emaar PJSC was complete.
